Very basic and Outward meanings are: the (inner) self of a person which is hiding inside him in a mysterious way and has very strong influence and hold over him. Hazrat Sultan Bahu Rahmatullah Alaihe has defined and explained Nafs with its various kinds at many occasions in his books. With the passage of time and study of different books one understands the nature of the Nafs and how to control or kill it etc. There is blight (and disaster) for everything and the blight for human being is his Nafs (P07 Muhik ul Faqar Klaan).
